Welcome to My Blog

18 countries. 22 cities. 108 days.

Overwhelming, I know.

This fall I will be studying abroad with a program called Semester at Sea. As I move through this incredible semester of college, I hope to use this blog for multiple purposes:

First and foremost, this blog will serve as additional assurance to my loving and concerned family members that I am, in fact, still alive and physically well enough to type. (Hi, Grandma!)

Second, I plan to use this first attempt at travel writing and blogging as my personal recollection of my adventures abroad. In other words, my blog posts will serve as my “travel diary.” Since I am no where near as writing disciplined as I should be, this will hopefully give me the chance to improve my writing and networking skills. I hope to one day be able to look back at this website and relive my experiences all over again. I have a feeling this semester is going to be one I want to remember.

I plan to update my blog after each port I visit and periodically in between ports to update on ship life and classes. Each port post should have plenty of pictures, stories, geeky references, and maybe even an occasional deep thought.

Since WiFi will be limited on the ship, I plan to update my blog primarily through email updates. This might result in odd formatting, especially since I am a beginning blogger. Please bear with me! Each blog post will also automatically update my social media sites.

Finally, please feel free to check out my other pages with information about me and Semester at Sea, follow my Instagram feed, or to leave comments on any of my pages and posts.

It is a big and beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don’t intend to be most of us.”   –George R.R. Martin, A Storm of Swords
